Pattern Making
Brief Description and expected Outcome
This course introduces students to pattern making by practicing and exercising towards mastery, thereby equipping students to make their own patterns for their designs. The class will teach the various methods of generating patterns, which are; drafting flat methods, Modeling/draping methods, tracing methods and the free hand cutting methods. Student will develop and create patterns for a variety of clothing apparels, they will conceptualize their patterns through the use of drawings and sketches, which will require entail grading, detailing, and adjusting garments in various sizes.
Students will be introduced to CAD (Computer Aided Designs) to create pattern models, which helps fashion designers to save time and money.
By the end of this course, the students should be able to; identify the tools and material used in pattern making, choose the pattern making method for the right design, draft all the pattern pieces of their sketches or designs, understand all the steps taking to generate the right patterns and be able to understand and practice the free hand cutting methods.
