Fashion Illustration

This course is designed to give students a good overview of fashion design and a general knowledge of the current fashion trends as well as the fundamental techniques of fashion illustration. In teaching this program importance will be given to creativity and development of a personal style as well as the improvement of technical skills, such as technical drawings and specification sheets.

In this course, students will learn how to use different coloring and rendering techniques using markers, color pencils, and watercolors offering a particularly artistic look in fashion illustration. Student will be taught to sketch the 10 head theory Fashion Figure, Stick Fashion Figure
  – Block Fashion Figure 
– Flesh Fashion
 Figure, Detailing – Face/head, arm, hand, leg & feet. Illustration of hairstyles, necklines
, collars, sleeves, trousers
, skirts and many more. Students will learn how to create their own collections from their own fashion project.

The class will also be involved in the study of different categories of the fashion market such as menswear, accessories, active sportswear, high fashion-haute couture, Jeanswear, and how to create related sketches. They will be involved in class critiques and discussions as well as oral presentations of their collections. Special attention will be given to the understanding of the fashion market, different categories of product, and different aspects of the fashion designer’s job.

The following will be taken into consideration when evaluating class projects and exams: drawing skills, personal creativity, trend awareness, aesthetic of presentation, effort, improvement, and attendance. A thorough foundation in fashion illustration is established in this course, which covers fashion figure and garment interpretation. Individual interpretation and creative drawing skills are emphasized.
