Millinery and Product Design
Brief Description and expected Outcome:
Millinery is a course that equips students with the skill of making fashion accessories with hat materials such as sinamay, straw, crochet, matt and other malleable materials. This course has been designed to give access to students, to learn how to make good hats, fascinators and other accessories that complement the hat or the fascinator.
Throughout the process of producing hats, fascinators etc, students will be guided on how to use tools and materials, drawing inspiration and executing imaginary ideas, which will increase their level of creativity.
This course has been designed to cover the entire key elements needed to learn the art and craft of millinery. Student will be taught to develop and design, proportion and balance the application of colour, select the appropriate range of fabrics available and apply to their design or concept, select appropriate tools and materials, identify the types of mould and select the appropriate mould for design or concept, use the basic and advanced techniques for making fascinators and headpieces to blocking straw, sinamay, crochet, weaving, doubled hat, turn-up, felt and fabric hats.
This course will equip students to produce the basic accessories such as loops, petals, cones, leafs, roses and coils. Student will be able to arrange feathers, stones and purbbles and also the basic accessories such as loops, petals, cones, leafs, roses and coils.
By the end of the course, students will be able to design, produce and finish all the types of hat piece, fascinators etc. and choose the appropriate package for effective branding and marketing.
